What you should know
before you order.
What if my cat ignores it, the way she ignores her scratching post?
A scratching post needs your cat to care about a piece of furniture. ClawSaver doesn’t need anything. You drop treats into the holes, set the box down and walk away. The rest is hunting instinct, not training.
And if she still won’t touch it, you have 30 days to send it back.
Doesn’t sandpaper make claws sharper, just like sisal?
No, and that’s the whole difference. On sisal, your cat sheds the old outer sheath of the claw. Underneath is the freshly grown tip, and that one is sharp. That’s why claws are often pointier after the scratching post than before.
The surface inside ClawSaver is abrasive. It wears the tip down instead of exposing a new one.
Can the paper make my cat’s paw pads sore?
The grit is chosen to work on the hard material of the claw. A cat’s paw pads are made of several tough layers and hold up much better than the claw does.
Our advice anyway: check her paws now and then during the first week. If she sits in the box for hours, take it away for a while. It’s made for fishing, not for napping.
So I’ll never have to trim her claws again?
We won’t promise you that. How much the tips wear down depends on how often your cat uses the box.
For very old cats, claws that are already growing into the pad, or dewclaws that never touch the ground, your vet is still the right call. Anything else would be a lie.
Does it work for an older or anxious cat?
The box sits flat on the floor. Your cat doesn’t have to jump, climb or stretch up. That’s exactly where scratching posts fail with senior cats.
With anxious cats, it helps to just leave the box out for a few days before you add treats. Let her discover it on her own.
How often do I need to change the paper?
Depending on how much your cat uses it, one insert lasts several months. A replacement is already in your order.
Swapping takes about ten seconds. Old insert out, new one in. No tools, no glue.
Does ClawSaver replace the scratching post?
For the claws, yes. For everything else, no. Cats also scratch to stretch and to mark their territory, and for that they need something tall.
If your cat ignores her scratching post anyway, ClawSaver won’t change that. It just keeps the tips shorter.
